Brett Lee ODI Statistical Review 10/07/2008
Brett Lee took 1/36 in the ODI against the West Indies at Queens Park in a match commencing on the 29th June 2008. It took his aggregate to 300 wickets, and became the tenth player to reach this milestone. See Players taking 300 Career Wickets
I have listed below some of Brett Lee's statistical achievements.
He reached 300 wickets in his 171st match, See Bowling-Progressive Average and Aggregate which was the fewest number of matches by any player to reach this milestone.
His current average of 22.95 is the fourteenth lowest overall and the third lowest among players who have taken 300 or more wickets. See Players taking 50 Wickets at an Average of 25.00 or Less
Average of under 25.0 against ten countries. See Performances by Opponent at All Grounds Only his averages against Zimbabwe (66.5) and Sri Lanka (38.24) were significantly below his overall average of 22.95.
He has taken four wickets in a match on nineteen occasions which is the fourth highest. See Players taking 4 Wickets in a Match on 5 or more occasions
Has taken 40 wickets or more in a calendar year on four occasions, which is second best. His highest return was 51 wickets in 2005. See Players 40 Wickets in a Calendar Year Only Shane Warne (AUS) has achieved it more often.(8)
He became the third Australian player to take a hat trick, when he achieved this feat at Kingsmead on the 15th March during the 2003 World Cup. See Bowlers taking Hat Trickets
His average when playing at home (22.89) is only marginally better than when playing away (23.01). See Performances in Australian Versus All Countries
Lee's dismissal statistics reveal that he dismissed S R Tendulkar (IND) 9 times, and S P Fleming (NZL) and C H Gayle (WIN) 7 times. See Analysis of Wickets Taken Against All Countries
The dismissal graph indicates that most of his dismissals are caught – 41.6%, and 24.1% caught behind which is typical for most pace bowlers. See Graphical Analysis of Dismissals Bowling Against All Countries
The wickets taken by batting order graph indicates that most of his dismissals are taken in the top order (1-3) 45.5%, with 35.0% in the middle order (4-7), and just 19.5% in the tail(8-11). See Graphical Analysis of Wickets Taken by Batting Order Notable comparisons with other 300 wicket takers top order percentages are: W P U Vaas (SRL) 60.1%, S M Pollock (SAF) 52.2%, G D McGrath (AUS) 47.5%, J Srinath (IND) 48.9%, Wasim Akram (PAK) 45.6%, Waqar Younis (PAK) 41.3%. The spinners top order percentages are A Kumble (IND) 30.6%, M Muralitharan (SRL) 24.8%, and S T Jayasuriay (SRL) 19.4%.
Lee and A C Gilchrist combined to take 58 dismissals, which is the fourth highest. See Top Bowler/Keeper Combinations
Some of his lesser achievements.
Conceded 80 runs in a match – 1/85 v PAK in 2001, 1/85 v NZL in 2005/06, and 1/83 v IND in 2003/04. See Players Conceding 80 Runs in a Match
Took 0/70+ on one occasion – 0/70 from 8 overs against Zimbabwe in 2000/01. See Players Conceding 70 runs in a Match without Taking a Wicket
Summary. Lee’s ODI performances have been remarkably consistent during his eight year career despite numerous injuries. He is capably handling his current role as Australia's main strike bowler, and appears to be in the prime of his career.
